“We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” ~ George Bernard Shaw
Reflection: Keep curiosity and joy alive. A youthful spirit has little to do with the number on your birthday.
Make Me Laugh😂
A man looked at his grocery receipt and said,
“I remember when $100 filled the cart.”
His wife looked inside.
“Now it fills two bags.”
He nodded.
“And one of them is mostly paper towels.”

VRE seeks grant to study extreme weather risks, including flooding at Broad Run Station
Flooding near Broad Run Station is part of a broader push by Virginia Railway Express to prepare its rail service for extreme weather. VRE is seeking a federal planning grant to study how heat, inland flooding, severe storms, high winds and heavy rain could affect tracks, stations and other infrastructure.
The concern is especially tangible in Prince William County, where VRE staff say floodwater during extreme events can rise to the entrances of the Broad Run Station parking lot near Piper Lane. The proposed study would help VRE better understand where its system is most vulnerable. PotomacLocal→

This one could directly affect Prince William commuters.

Gatorade Recall: What Consumers Should Know
PepsiCo has recalled roughly 122,000 cases of 28-ounce Gatorade bottles (Lemon Lime, Lemon Lime Zero, Orange, and Orange Zero) sold across 37 states after the FDA found the drinks contained undeclared Yellow No. 5 and/or Yellow No. 6 dyes. The FDA classified it as a Class II recall, meaning exposure may cause temporary or reversible health effects — worth checking your fridge if you buy Gatorade regularly. Read more →

New York declares measles emergency as outbreak spreads from Pennsylvania
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has declared a statewide emergency as a measles outbreak spreads from Pennsylvania, where officials reported 977 cases and five deaths as of Oct. 2. New York has recorded 108 cases, while the CDC says nearly 3,900 have been reported nationwide in the country’s worst measles year since 1991.
The order expands access to vaccination and testing: pharmacists can vaccinate children as young as 2, registered nurses can order tests for suspected measles, and MMR shots must be reported promptly to immunization registries. Hochul said no one should become seriously ill or die from a vaccine-preventable disease.
Pennsylvania health officials are working to protect potentially exposed infants and urge people who may have been exposed and lack immunity to contact a doctor. Measles is highly contagious and can cause pneumonia, brain swelling and, in rare cases, death. Anyone who develops symptoms should call ahead before visiting a healthcare facility.

Faltering Cellular Recycling Lets “Zombie Cells” Linger With Age
“Zombie cells” stop dividing but don’t disappear. They help heal wounds, yet build up with age and can harm nearby tissue. A new mouse study led by researchers at Albert Einstein College of Medicine suggests one reason: aging weakens a cellular recycling process called chaperone-mediated autophagy, making these cells harder for the immune system to clear.
When researchers disrupted that process in mice, zombie cells accumulated faster at wound sites and healing slowed. A molecule that boosts cellular recycling also eased disease severity in mouse lung cells with fibrosis when given early. The findings point toward a possible approach to aging: helping the body clear zombie cells naturally rather than simply killing them. More→

Pad Thai brings sweet, savory and sour flavors to a classic Thai noodle stir-fry.
Pad Thai is a Thai noodle stir-fry built around thin, flat rice noodles and a sauce that balances sweet, savory and sour flavors. A scattering of crushed peanuts finishes the dish. Bean sprouts, garlic chives, scrambled egg and firm tofu are almost always part of the mix, along with a protein. Chicken and prawns are the most popular choices. It’s a dish defined by contrasts: soft noodles and crisp sprouts, a punchy sauce and a nutty topping. More→
🌤️ Weather
As you step into the day ahead, think about something you once promised yourself you would do. Maybe progress slowed. Maybe circumstances changed. Maybe you simply needed a break. If it still matters, don’t let an unfinished chapter become the ending. Pick up where you left off, take the next step, and keep moving. You don’t have to finish everything today. Just take the next step toward something that still matters. One day, you may look back and be grateful you decided to “finish what you started.”
