• 1975 — The House of Representatives Restores Citizenship to Robert E. Lee
The U.S. House voted to restore the American citizenship of Robert E. Lee, more than a century after it had been revoked following the Civil War. The restoration was finalized by President Gerald Ford later that year as part of a broader effort toward national reconciliation.
